Sycamore Music Boosters Award Scholarships


                                                                    Sycamore Music Boosters is pleased to announce the winners of their annual Continuing


Gail Anderson

 College Music Scholarship to Gail Anderson and Calob Pluhm.  This scholarship award is designed to assist Sycamore High School graduates in continuing their music education in college. Calob Pluhm, first year recipient, and Gail Anderson, second year recipient, were each awarded this scholarship in recognition of their outstanding musicianship, music and academic achievements, and overall participation in music.

Gail Anderson, a Sycamore High School graduate, is in her senior year at Augustana College as a Music Major pursuing a BA in Horn performance and a degree in Music Education.  She has been highly involved in various ensembles including serving as the principal player and section leader in the Augustana Symphonic Band and the Augustana Chamber Orchestra.  She is also a member of the Augustana Horn Choir, Woodwind Quintet, and Brass Quintet, serves as a summer piano accompanist at the Newman Center in DeKalb, and traveled on the Midwest Tour with the Augustana Symphonic Band this past summer.  Gail is a member of the National Association for Music Educators and Sigma Alpha Iota-Delta Tau Chapter.  She has been a judge for Honor Band Festival, a Music Theory Tutor, and Music Office Assistant.

Calob Pluhm, also a Sycamore High School graduate, is a senior at Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) as a Music Education Major. He has been a member of various IWU music ensembles including the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Trombone Choir, University Choir, Symphonic Winds, Jazz Lab, and Titan Band.  Calob is a member of the Phi Mu Alpha-Alpha Lambda Chapter and served as both Secretary and Vice President there. During 2011 and 2012, he also served as the IWU Civic Orchestra Manager.

Both scholarship recipients will continue to pursue their dedication to music while completing their last year of college music education. Congratulations to both scholarship winners!

The Sycamore Music Boosters support all students in grades K-12 in various music programs offered within the district and comprises of a group of volunteers families and friends of students enrolled in music education classes in Sycamore Schools.
