Sycamore Middle School Music Students Selected for State-Wide Honor Choir

Nine Sycamore Middle School 6th grade choir students have been selected to participate in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Illinois State Honor Choir at their Fall Convention in October. ACDA is a nonprofit music-education organization whose goals outline the association’s dedication to the advancement of choral music. The association members are strong advocates for music in the schools and provide honors and enrichment opportunities, like this festival choir, for students.

On October 28, the invited Sycamore students will attend the convention at the College of DuPage and join other students from across the state in rehearsals with noted choral conductor, Emily Ellsworth, before performing a concert that afternoon. Congratulations to HatieJane Alexander, Sofia DasNeves, Lilly Faulhaber, Aurora Hilligoss, Liliana Jennings, Gabriel Jovanovich, Layla Musich, Kyla Prather, and Laynee Sosin! Everyone is proud of their accomplishments and representation of Sycamore Middle School and Sycamore Community School District #427.

Student Noelle Sharp Makes Donation to Music Boosters

Foregoing the traditional birthday party, Sycamore student Noelle Sharp recently hosted a Donation Party and requested her guests contribute a donation to her choice of a non-profit organization instead of a traditional gift. “I feel very fortunate in my life, and always want to do something meaningful to celebrate my birthday. I want to do my part in supporting others in our community; I love music and want to help all the kids in my school district have the opportunity to enjoy music as a part of their lives, so I chose to support the Sycamore Music Boosters again this year” explains Noelle.

Noelle is a 6th grade student at Sycamore Middle School as well as a growing musician playing Violin in Orchestra and Clarinet in Band. This is the second year in a row Noelle has chosen the Sycamore Music Boosters to receive her birthday donation. As she presented her donation to Music Boosters President Lisa Smith, Noelle commented she hoped her donation would help support the young students in the Music Program, but especially to help bring back the Elementary School Spring Sings. Noelle adds, “Many of my friends and family, including myself, missed performing and attending the Spring Sing this past year. I know the community would like to see these fun concerts return in the future, so I hope this donation will help with that.”

Lisa Smith, President of the Music Boosters comments, “We are honored to be selected as the recipient of Noelle’s birthday donation again this year! She is a very thoughtful and giving young lady, and such an inspiration! We love the idea of giving back while you celebrate; fostering a culture of gratitude and compassion gives this a much sweeter meaning and we are thankful to receive her gift!”

The Sycamore Music Department and the Sycamore Music Boosters, a non-profit volunteer organization that supports all students in grades K-12, encourages others to consider making a donation and support these music programs.  Future opportunities for additional donors are always welcome! Contributions in any amount may be given by individuals, families, local businesses, and even corporations.

Thank You & Words of Appreciation for Music Boosters Treasurer Peggy Diemer

Peggy Diemer Thank You #1

At our May meeting, we recognized and thanked our Music Boosters Treasurer, Peggy Diemer, for her 6 years of service! She has been one of the hardest working, loyal, and trustworthy parent volunteers for music boosters over the past 6 years.  She was extremely involved in all fundraising activities each year including the Craft Fair, A Note To Remember, and all smaller fundraisers such as the Feed My Starving Children” ticket sales, Portillo’s, Culver’s, Jamrah and other food fundraisers, Spirit Wear sales, and more!  She was often one of the first to arrive and the last to leave at each event!

Peggy took the Treasurer position from manually balancing the  check book and accounts to development of digitizing the accounting, developing more professional reports, and assuring that all tax laws are followed through yearly consultation with an accountant.

In addition to serving as Treasurer, Peggy has been involved as a volunteer as a Band Parent preparing meals and assisting with band events over the past 8 years.

On behalf of Lisa Smith, current Sycamore Music Boosters President; Ken Olson, past-President of the Music Boosters; past and current Music Boosters Officers; Sycamore School District Music Staff; everyone involved in the Music Boosters; and the Sycamore School District Music Programs – we all owe Peggy a great deal of gratitude for her faithful service! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

With great appreciation for her untiring dedication and hard work, Music Boosters President Lisa Smith presented Peggy a Certificate of Appreciation and restaurant gift card (above photo).

Bravo to Peggy Diemer!
